Open source vendor EnterpriseDB (http://www.enterprisedb.com/) is attempting to attract Oracle's customers by promoting its Oracle Migration Assessment program (http://searchoracle.techtarget.com/news/article/0,289142,sid41_gci1363589,00.html) and Postgres Plus Advanced Server (http://www.postgresql.org/about/news.1099).
The program was created as a rescue vehicle for Oracle customers that are struggling with price increases on Oracle's database modules. The prices on select database modules from Oracle have raised as much as 40%, according to SearchOracle.com.
With the Oracle Migration Assessment program, customers can migrate applications running on Oracle databases to Postgres, an open source database with a built-in compatibility layer for Oracle. EnterpriseDB also guarantees that IT shops won't receive any disruptions during the migration process.
