According to CNET news (http://www.opensourcegroups.com/.http://news.cnet.com/8301-27080_3-10305200-245.html), the recent Twitter and Facebook DDoS that impacted millions of twitter users, was a focused attempt to target one person’s voice or rather tweets, a Georgian blogger who goes by the account name "Cyxymu." While Facebook, Live journal and blogger networks handled the attacks fairly well, Twitter was the most affected.
The attack has been narrowed down to a Abkhazia location, a territory that's in dispute between Russia and the Republic of Georgia. The outspoken Georgian with vociferous political views has become an adversary to many Russian supporters who wanted to take down his voice and obviously didn’t think twice before bringing down the whole network in the process.
Amazing how these social network sites have become so much more than chatting about your morning walk or complaining about rain. They now make a powerful political weapon ! Didn’t we learn that from the clever way Obama leveraged the online networks during his campaigns?
