Not to be left behind in the recent race to release newer and better operating systems , China (http://www.chinamobile.com/en/mainland/) Mobile Ltd (http://www.chinamobile.com/en/mainland/). announced yesterday that it now boasts an open source mobile operating system that supports China's homegrown TD-SCDMA technology .
The open source platform will help lower the barrier to developing handsets that run on Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access technology, China Mobile Chairman Wang Jianzhou said in a statement.
The company also said it will launch a TD-SCDMA handset based on its open source mobile operating system this year.
Legend Holdings Ltd.'s handset division(Legend Holdings is the parent of Lenovo Group Ltd), as well as HTC Corp., LG Electronics Inc. and Dell Inc. are now offering 2G handsets based on China Mobile's open source platform.
