Netgear (http://www.opensourcegroups.com/www.netgear.com) has launched the RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router that goes on sale this fall for $139.99.It runs on open source Linux platform ,supports a wide variety of popular free applications such as DD-WRT, OpenWRT and Tomato . Apart from the support to enable more applications from the open source community, RangeMax offers high-performance wireless range and speed, Gigabit Ethernet ports and ReadyShare USB storage access. Netgear has also announced a partner program with software vendors to develop more commercial grade applications . Some of them include BigFoot Networks to boost network speeds for online gaming, Leaf Networks for easy remote access, Paragon Software for high-speed USB file reads and writes, and Sputnik for hotspot solutions.

"The debut of our open source RangeMax Wireless-N Gigabit Router is significant as it is the first full-featured Wireless-N Linux router to combine wide ranging capabilities, features, infrastructure and a community to enable application development," Som Pal Choudhury, Netgear's senior product line manager for advanced wireless, said as part of the announcement..
