OSCON today was all about companies preening about their open source achievements. No surprise there:rolleyes: Google ‘s program manager, Chris De Bona played the charming quiz master using the abundance of queer stuff that Google crawlers have unearthed from the web over the years as material including 2.5 billion lines of open source code. Microsoft, yes Microsoft’s (what were they doing at an open source convention BTW?) Tony Hey, corporate vice president of external research, touted the Software company’s liaisons with the scientific community and talked about how important it was for scientists to choose the best tools whether open source or proprietary. Hey also included mentions of open source extentions to MS Office and other products thereby trying very hard to bridge that glaring gap between his company and the open source communityJ For the nitty gritties, check out Datamation (http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/osrc/article.php/3831526)
